1st Blog Assignment

Blog Unit 1
Dying metaphors help bring a visual image that can be used without loss of the phrases.
Using different words in order to make your statement clearer for people to understand.
In my Unit 1 essay paper I plan on using his rules especially on making sure by where a long word is a short one will do just as good as well as cutting out sentences.
Orwell’s argument against the English language is somewhat where he is trying to make people adapt back to the basics of the English language. Now they are just adding things that don’t make any sense. So he admits he’s guilty himself of doing this as well but still trying to prove his point and help people in their writing abilities.
Orwell’s argument did persuade me into his way of thinking because sometime when I actually listen to myself talk or think about what I just said I’m wondering where in the world did that come from? It doesn’t make any sense! So with his words of wisdom I will try my best to shorten sentences and try to use short words instead of long words that I’m going to have to look up in the dictionary to find out exactly what they mean. Just a few simple changes like that can make a world of difference on an essay I believe. He did a great job of explaining the terminology of the English language.

  1. I agree with you that if you use the

simple words instead of the big intellectual

words, you will confuse less people. It seems

like every time I read military instruction

manual, I need a dictionary with me to decipher

their meaning. Orwell makes a good point that

their is no need to use big words instead of

the common small words. If only all writers

would follow what Orwell is trying to explain.
